In the late 1940s, Jean-Louis Domecq works to invent a cordless lamp for use in industry, where he himself worked and repeatedly missed a proper and safe work lamp. In April 1950, the Jieldé lamp was born.
The lamp is a robust multi-joint lamp with a screen that can rotate 360 degrees and the lamp can withstand machine vibrations and its many joints that can be worn means that it can be fully adapted to the needs of the individual worker. However, the most ground-breaking part of the Jieldé lamp lies within it. The wires have disappeared and the current is instead led through the lamp via chrysocal contacts which circulate the current in the joints.
The lamp becomes enormously popular due to its functionality and is very quickly used in industry, but also in hospitals and laboratories. Jean-Louis Domecq spends the next years industrializing the production of the lamp and in 1953 comes the final model called STANDARD, which later becomes LOFT.
It is also in 1953 that Jean-Louis Domecq sets up a company that will exclusively market the STANDARD lamp. He takes the company and later the nickname for the lamp from his own name JLD = Ji eL Dé. He presents his STANDARD lamp at the Paris fair where it gets a lot of attention.
Jean-Louis Domecq hands the company over to his daughter in the 1970s and it is she who introduces the Jieldé lamp to the private consumer in the 1980s. The lamps are still produced today in Lyon, France.
